Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about syncing your Google Calendars

How do I sync my work and personal Google Calendars?

Connect both calendars to GCalSync, then create a bidirectional sync between them in the Dashboard > Syncs section. Events will automatically replicate across both calendars.

Can I show only 'Busy' on my work calendar without revealing event details?

Yes! Enable privacy mode for your work calendar. When creating or editing a calendar connection, turn on 'Privacy Mode' and set your placeholder text (e.g., 'Busy'). Events synced to that calendar will only show your placeholder text without any details.

What's the difference between one-way and bidirectional sync?

One-way sync replicates events from source to target calendar only. Bidirectional sync replicates events in both directions, so creating an event in either calendar will sync it to the other.

How does GCalSync prevent duplicate events?

GCalSync uses intelligent duplicate detection. Each synced event is tracked with metadata, so if the same event already exists, it won't be created again. Events are only replicated once per sync configuration.

Can I customize how synced events appear?

Yes! You can add custom prefixes (like '[Work]' or '[Personal]'), choose specific colors for synced events, and enable privacy mode to hide details. All these settings are available when configuring your calendars.

How often does GCalSync check for new events?

You can sync manually anytime by clicking the sync button, or enable automatic syncing to run at regular intervals. Automatic syncs typically run every 15-30 minutes for active configurations.

What happens if I delete a synced event?

If you delete a synced event from the target calendar, it will be recreated on the next sync. To permanently remove an event, delete it from the source calendar or pause/delete the sync configuration.

Is my calendar data secure?

Yes. We use OAuth 2.0 for authentication, all data is encrypted in transit (TLS/SSL), and access tokens are encrypted at rest. We only access your calendar data to perform the sync operations you configure. We never read, analyze, or share your events for any other purpose.

How many calendars can I connect?

The free tier allows 1 calendar connection. Upgrade to Starter (up to 5 calendars) or Pro (unlimited) for more connections. Check your current limit in the dashboard.

What if I'm seeing duplicate events?

This can happen if you have multiple overlapping sync configurations or if you manually created events in both calendars. Review your sync settings and use the 'Delete All Synced Events' option to reset, then re-sync. See our troubleshooting guide for more details.
