Privacy Mode Explained
Keep your personal life private while showing availability on your work calendar
Last updated: 2025-11-12
What is Privacy Mode?
Privacy mode replaces event titles and details with a placeholder text (like "Busy") when syncing to a target calendar. Your coworkers see you're unavailable without knowing why.
This is perfect for showing work commitments on your personal calendar or personal appointments on your work calendar.
How to Enable Privacy Mode
- Go to your Dashboard and find the calendar you want to protect
- Click "Edit" on that calendar
- Toggle "Privacy Mode" to ON
- Enter your placeholder text (e.g., "Busy", "Focus Time", "Blocked")
- Save your changes
What Gets Hidden?
When privacy mode is enabled, synced events will hide:
- Event title
- Event description
- Event location
- Attendee list
- Any other event metadata
✅ What's preserved: Start time, end time, and your chosen placeholder text
Use Cases
Personal → Work Calendar
Show your team you're unavailable during doctor appointments, therapy sessions, or date nights without revealing what you're doing.
Work → Personal Calendar
Block out work meetings on your personal calendar so friends and family know when you're not available, without exposing confidential meeting titles.
Freelance → Client Calendar
Show clients when you're busy without revealing other client names or project details.
Choosing Good Placeholder Text
- "Busy" – Simple and professional
- "Personal" – Indicates private time
- "Focus Time" – Implies deep work
- "Blocked" – Clear and neutral
- "OOO" – Out of office shorthand
💡 Tip: Keep it short and professional. Avoid anything too specific that might defeat the purpose of privacy mode.
Common Questions
Can I use different placeholders for different calendars?
Yes! Each calendar has its own privacy mode setting and placeholder text. You can customize them independently.
Does privacy mode work with bidirectional sync?
Yes. Privacy mode applies when events are synced TO that calendar. Events syncing FROM that calendar retain their full details (unless the target also has privacy mode).
Can I temporarily disable privacy mode?
Absolutely. Toggle it off in your calendar settings, then run a sync to update all events with full details.
